Fighting Ewing’s Sarcoma – What We Are Doing:
The Charles and Dana Nearburg Foundation (CDNF) has funded, or is currently funding, the following efforts:
One: Every two years the CDNF sponsors the “Rett Nearburg International Ewing’s Sarcoma Symposium” for leading researchers and clinicians specializing in Ewing’s. The fourth symposium will be in spring 2008.
Two: The CDNF has recently committed funding for the “Rett Nearburg Initiative” at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Rett’s Initiative is a special laboratory focused on evaluating new drug compounds for potential efficacy in treating Ewing’s Sarcoma. This is the first project of its kind for Ewing’s, and is organized with the help of CureSearch and Children’s Oncology Group – www.curesearch.org.
Three: The CDNF funded the hiring and Ewing’s Sarcoma research of two doctors at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical School for four years.
Four: The CDNF established the “Nearburg Family Center For Pediatric Cancer Research” at UTSW Medical School.
Five: The CDNF funded Ewing’s Sarcoma genomic research and lab equipment at the Pediatric Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute.
